The headphone icon does not disappear in the status bar

Imagine the situation: You connected the headphones to your smartphone via the 3.5mm jack connector and the corresponding icon appeared in the status bar. Then you unplugged the headphones, but the icon does not disappear and is constantly displayed. In addition, if the headphones have a microphone (headset), then you will also not be able to make a phone call now. How can fix this problem? There are two options:

Mechanical

This option is for contamination of the connector or damage to it. If you use your phone for a long time, then over time a lot of dust and dirt gets clogged into the headphone jack, which can cause contact closures. Therefore, the solution may be as follows:

  • Turn off your phone
  • Take a toothpick and try to use it to get all the dirt out of the headphone jack.

If this does not help, then take a cotton swab, lightly soak it in alcohol and insert it into the connector several times to clean it. Make circular movements with a cotton swab. Wait for the alcohol to dry and check if the headphone icon has disappeared.

If this option does not help, insert the headphones into your ears. Take the headphone plug and insert it into the 3.5mm jack several times. You will hear a distinctive crackle and hiss. Keep an eye on the headset (headphones) icon in the status bar. It can disappear and reappear. Do this several times.

Rain, drinks, or a child’s drool could get into the connector. If this happens, you need to dry your phone. But do not put it in the sunlight and do not blow hot air into the connector. Just turn off your smartphone and put it in a warm and dry place for a few hours. Or insert a dry cotton swab into the connector. Do this several times. It is necessary that the cotton swab absorbs all the moisture.

Software

Yes, it may have happened due to an operating system bug.

  • Find bluetooth headphones (headset) or speaker
  • Connect them to the phone and call someone. Now disconnect them from the phone.

The icon from the status bar should disappear.

If nothing helps, you need to contact the service center. Perhaps this is a breakdown that will require repair or replacement of the 3.5mm jack connector.
